Miss Wisconsin Miss USA contender Shaletta Porterfield, 26, has stepped down from her position in the contest after identity theft charges surfaced, reports the NY Daily News.
Porterfield, who admitted to investigators that she had forged business owner signatures on advertising contracts at a marketing company last year, resigned on Friday.
She is being charged with three counts of stealing someone's identity for financial gain, charges her lawyer hopes will be reduced to fines and/or community service to avoid prosecution.

Shaletta Porterfield, 26, of Madison won the Miss Wisconsin USA title last year.She was due to compete for the Miss USA crown in Las Vegas next month, NBC station WTMJ reported. However, Porterfield resigned on Friday after being charged in Dane County in April.
